The protests following George Floyd and others’ killing have made race the central conversation in America. In this five-week master class on race, you’ll participate in an honest conversation about race and learn how your congregation or organization can face the divides in our country with love and unity.

WEEK 1: AMY COOPER, GEORGE FLOYD, AND RACE IN AMERICA

In this teaching, we lay a foundation by defining race, race maintenance, and the epistemology of ignorance. These three fundamental ideas help us better understand the challenging journey toward Love & Unity.

WEEK 2: WHITE SUPREMACY HURTS WHITE PEOPLE, TOO

With the proper definition of race, we can begin to see how having a hierarchy of race hurts everyone, even those situated at the top of the hierarchy. In this teaching, we will unpack the origins and dangers of the ideology of white supremacy, as well as the unlikely places where this ideology lives.

WEEK 3: MISCONCEPTIONS AND DEFLECTIONS

There are many misconceptions about race that derail productive conversations. In this teaching, we explore how to address comments such as, “what about black on black crime?”, “race is a sin issue, not a skin issue,” and more so that we can talk to each other instead of past each other on issues of race.

WEEK 4: RACE AND GENDER

Too often, racial and gender bias are treated as entirely separate issues, although half of people of color are women. In this teaching, we take an intersectional approach to race, enabling a holistic theological understanding of the Imago Dei in all.

WEEK 5: RACE AND THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Healing racial inequality is not only social good; it is a Kingdom imperative. In this teaching, we will cultivate an imagination for long-term change and a mindset toward One New Humanity.

your own, each step in the process is designed to guide you to better understanding.
